My Story

I’m not an expert in science or religion but this is my journey from believing science had more answers and better explanations for the universe to now believing the Bible is in agreement with science on many theories. It seems your world view determines if you believe the Bible or science alone.
I was raised a Christian but did not really like church as a kid. From my late teens to late 30's, I did not live a Christian lifestyle, go to church, or read the Bible. I was interested in science and space and researched many of the theories for the beginning of the universe.
After several years I started to realize how many unanswered questions science has about the beginning of the universe and life on earth. There are plenty of theories but no real consensus on many of these questions. I realized science does not have near the proof that many claim that God does not exist or there is no need for a god to create anything. To the contrary, it seemed to me like there is more evidence for the universe and life being created by a god than forming from "nothing".
After becoming disenchanted with scientific theories on the creation of the universe and formation of life on earth, I started going through some personal struggles in life. This also led me to start to do some research on the Bible and if it is really true. I am still pretty early in my journey with the Bible but so far I have not found anything that says it’s a lie. I have tried to research at least a few things from the main categories that Bible skeptics point to in saying the Bible is false and after doing some digging I have not found anything yet.
I have actually found that the Bible is a lot like science. There are a lot of things that cannot be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. There are also varying theories from different experts on many topics. There are also people, with mainly political or personal motivations, that claim there is a lot more proof for things in the Bible than there really are. Science has all the same things. This has led me to being frustrated with both science and religion in the context of people arguing over them. Neither side has all the answers and since both have some big unanswered questions, I don’t think people who believe the Bible or people who trust more in science are crazy.
Believing there is a God that has always existed and has the power to create the entire universe and life is incomprehensible with the human brain and illogical. Also the belief that the universe somehow created itself from “nothing” or that there is a process that has always existed that is creating universe after universe is incomprehensible and illogical. There is not a view on how the universe began that is logical. Both views have the same problem, something existing outside of time and space with no start or beginning does not seem possible.
I definitely don’t have all the answers and I am not an expert in science or religion, but after looking at the evidence I have seen, it points to there being a creator of the universe and life. I don’t think the Bible provides all the answers for how or when everything was created, but I do believe it was created by God. Besides science pointing to a creator, there is some archaeological evidence for some of the people and events in the Bible. Also, there have been things/people that are in the Bible that archaeologists said did not exist but evidence was later found that they did exist. So just like scientists say they will solve the unanswered questions in the future with more research/evidence, Bible believers can do the same.
